Pimsleur
French Level 1 is 30 audio lessons of
around 30 minutes each. There is a reading
booklet and study guide to accompany the audios
but the emphasis of the Pimsleur method is on
listening to audios and learning to speak and
comprehend the French language.
This works like
many other audio based courses in that you
repeat sentences after the narrator of the
course. You can do this while the audio is
playing or better yet, stop the audio and
practice saying the sentence or word. The
course breaks down sentences and words almost
to the syllable. It will stress how to
pronounce each syllable. This should help to
get a good accent when you speak the words or
sentence.
The claim is that
you will be speaking your new language within
30 minutes (or after the first lesson.)
